A Planning and Coordination Meeting on Vaccine Hesitancy Was Held Among Units of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Türkiye

On 18 June 2025, in Ankara, under the coordination of the Health Institutes of Türkiye (TÜSEB)- Türkiye Health Policies Institute (TÜSPE) and chaired by Prof. Dr. Işıl MARAL, President of the Turkey Health Policies Institute, a meeting titled “Coordination and Planning Meeting on Vaccine Hesitancy Among Units of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Türkiye” was held.

Participants of the meeting included the Director General of Health Promotion and their team; the Head of the Department of Monitoring and Evaluation and the Head of the Department of Health Communication from the Directorate General of Health Promotion; the Acting Head of the Department of Vaccine Preventable Diseases and Immunization with their team, along with the Head of the Department of Law and Legislation from the Directorate General of Public Health; and the Heads of the Department of Public Health Informatics and the Department of Project Development from the Directorate General of Health Information Systems.

Also in attendance were the presidents of the institutes affiliated with TÜSEB: the Türkiye Vaccine Institute (TAE), the Türkiye Public Health and Chronic Diseases Institute (TÜHKE), and the Türkiye Maternity, Child and Adolescent Health Institute (TAÇESE), as well as academicians.

In the opening of the meeting, it was emphasized that vaccine hesitancy has been on the rise in Türkiye in recent years and poses a serious risk to public health. Within this scope, the activities carried out by institutions to date were reviewed, and the current situation was evaluated, aiming to establish a general framework for the upcoming period. The goal was to develop a common understanding to ensure inter-institutional coordination and enhance effective cooperation.

Prof. Dr. Işıl MARAL, President of the Türkiye Health Policies Institute (TÜSPE), shared the findings of their research on behavioral and social factors affecting parental decisions in childhood immunizations, as well as the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of healthcare professionals. She also provided information about the types of data needed for health policy development and the upcoming Vaccine Workshop planned in the near future.

The meeting was considered a significant step toward strengthening inter-institutional cooperation in developing policies to protect public health. It was announced that the decisions taken would be shared with the public in due course. The event concluded with the planning of concrete actions for the future.
